Trillium ovatum (Western White Trillium)

This ­­­­­12 to 24” tall perennial wildflower is the most common trillium species of the American northwest woodlands and  mixed coniferous forests whose native range spans from British Columbia, Canada south into California, and from the Pacific coast into western Montana.  It has a showy white flower that blooms from late February in its most southern range into early June at higher northern elevations. Its pedicellate-type flower sit upon a short flower stem above three large solid green leaves.  Once the flower is pollinated it begins to turns from pink, then mauve and finally deep purple before dying.  It will develop a green egg-shaped fruit (berry).  It likes a moist, humusy soil in shade to part shade.  It is a true spring ephemeral blooming in spring, going dormant in summer.
