Trillium sulcatum
Trillium sulcatum (Southern Red Trillium)
This up to 20” tall perennial wildflower is native to the eastern US. The exquisite rich dark red maroon (sometimes white) three-petaled flower sits atop a flower stem above three large green leaves. It is similar to Trillium erectum but the sepal tips are “sulcate” meaning they are upturned and rolled in like the prow of a canoe. It is a true spring ephemeral blooming in spring, usually going dormant in summer. Shade/Part Shade.
