How to Order Plants from Cottage Lake Gardens
Here is some helpful information on how to order plants from Cottage Lake Gardens.
Ordering: We are excited to announce the opening of our new e-commerce website where trilliums and other wonderful plants can be ordered online. By clicking the “Shop Online” link you will see our current plant and product availability list. We will be adding more inventory each week so be sure to check back often.
We process our orders first come-first serve, and because some plants may be limited in quantity, we will let you know as soon as possible, if any plants are no longer available. Ordering early will increase your chances of receiving the more popular and hard-to-find plants.
Note: For your security, our website uses an automated and validated secure (SSL encrypted) shopping cart feature which protects your credit card information.
For our local customers: Local customers have the option of picking up their order in person to save on shipping charges or can pay to have them mailed with the option given at the end of the checkout process. Ordering through our website is the easiest way for local customers to purchase plants since the nursery is usually only open to the public during our spring trillium tours.
For out-of-town customers: We ship within the U.S. but unfortunately are unable to sell overseas at this time.
Payment: We accept all credit cards which will be charged when your order is placed at the end of the checkout process. If, for any reason, we are unable to fill your order completely, you will be refunded the difference.
Packing: Depending on the time of year and the type of plant, the plant(s) may be shipped either bare root, in the pot or removed from the pot with some soil removed. The plant description will indicate which way it will be sent and the mailing cost may be different accordingly. When Trilliums and other woodland perennial are dormant, they can be sent bare root without harming the plant and with considerable savings on shipping costs. Potted plants tend to be more expensive to ship because of the extra weight. We will try to utilize the US Priority Mail Flat Rate options whenever possible if that is a more cost effective option. When shipping bare root, we will pack the roots, rhizomes or bulbs to stay moist while in transit.
Shipping: We ship year round weather permitting and usually ship within a couple of days after receiving the order unless you specify a preferred date. The month of May is very busy here at Cottage Lake Gardens because of the daily Trillium Tours, so orders going out that month may take a little longer.
There are several shipping options available at checkout. Shipping prices are calculated automatically through the website. The shipping cost will vary depending on the carrier you choose, the total shipping weight, the size of the packing box and the shipping destination. We always try to save you money on shipping if we can and will gladly refund any savings we may get from what you paid. If you have any questions about shipping, do not hesitate to email us at email@example.com.
Unpacking your plants: Be sure to unpack your plants as soon as you receive them. Don’t let them sit in the box for a couple of days before opening them. Once opened, remove all packing materials, let them breathe and if still leafed out, water them, if necessary. They usually need a little time to recover and they will thank you for this extra care which will help them revive and perk up. Plants may look a bit unhappy after going through the mail but they are quite resilient and should recover once planted in the ground and become acclimated to their new home.
Returns & Refunds: If for some reason you are dissatisfied with the condition of the plants you received or if there is more than the normal amount of damage from shipping, please contact us immediately. We will be glad to take steps to make you happy. When appropriate, refunds are given by crediting your credit card account.
